Our home system has two statics - a c4 and a c5. I usually prefer to scout the c4 chain as I believe it provides more gank opportunities, while a c5 has a higher chance of finding fleet fights.
It's getting late and c4 looks quiet. Being a good scout as I am, I jump into a c5 for a quick look. A check on the pathfinder shows me there's a new signature in the system.
I promptly scan it and check it out. It's a c6 wondering wormhole. The connection starts on our side, meaning it's not a K I jump in to take a look. An excitement quickly takes over as I notice Nestors and few additional ships on scan. I move my trusty Porteus and cloak up, ready to investigate.
Not long after, locals drop out core scanner probes, indicating I am the first one to open the connection on their side. I do not know if they saw my Proteus on d-scan or not.
In any case, there's nothing much I can do about it. I report my findings to a few people on comms and can feel the excitement rising. Nothing piques more interest to wormholers than a possible shiny gank.
I decide not to send out the ping yet. After all, the locals might have seen my Proteus on d-scan and whatever activity they had, might stop. I do not warp from the wormhole yet, because I want to keep eyes on the connection. Intelligence is most important in w-space and knowing if they have eyes on our c5 static can make all the difference. I watch an Astero warp to the wormhole, jump in and after several seconds jump back.
I ask for a Sabre pilot to park on the connection. My anticipation is to catch a rolling battleship. There are wrecks present on d-scan which indicate locals have been doing sites before a new signature disrupter their operation.Refer to your best judgement or the FC instructions on jamming targets.

In one posthe talked about an Astero fit he used for solo hunting PvE ships. I had taken out and lost a Stratios prior to this and the Astero presented a more economical option. I geared up to hunt the easiest and most abundant prey, the ratting Catalyst and the Venture. Because the Astero is classed as a pirate frigate, it draws bonuses from two frigate skills. The Astero also get bonuses to exploration-focused activities and modules, but those are not applicable here. One is taken up by a Covert Ops Cloaking Device. This allows the ship to warp around cloaked, a major boost to its hunting capabilities.
I wanted to focus on cranking out as much Electromagnetic DPS as possible, and this offered the best combination of application and range flexibility. Mid Slots 4 : Here I focused on controlling range, keeping tackle, and managing my capacitor. The ships I was hunting were all Afterburner fit in the standard mass produced variants, so the MWD alone would be enough to control range.
This means you need at least three points of Warp Disruption to tackle a Venture. Scams provide 2 points, and a Disruptor provides 1, giving the ship enough to keep a Venture pinned. Against Catalysts, the Disruptor would be good enough. Because of the hungry nature of an MWD and long point running at the same time, I wanted to ensure that I could quickly revitalize my capacitor if the need arose. Low Slots 4 : The low slots are very bread and butter.
First is a Damage Control to help boost the overall resist profile. Next is an Energized Adaptive Nano Membrane to further enhance the armor resists. This is to give the ship a limited ability to engage in prolonged combat with something that engages it. Last is a Drone Damage Amplifier to increase the amount of damage done by the drones. Rigs 3 : Two of the rig slots are quite standard, while the third is quite interesting.
First we have a Small Anti-Explosive Pump I to bring the explosive resist in line with the rest of the profile. This reduces the delay in targeting after decloaking to just over five seconds, which narrows the window that the target has to react before getting pointed.
Drones 75m3, 25Mbit Bandwidth : The drone loadout is very straight forward. Due to the innate Electromagnetic hole, Acolyte IIs are the preferred choice for dealing with the smaller shield tanked rating ships. Check this against likely fits. If you plan on staying out in space for a long period of time, carry spare drones in your cargo hold along with a Depot to replenish. First is the MWD, as the reduced cap usage and additional speed are quite useful in keeping the ship alive. Second is the Warp Disruptor. Against non-Venture targets, you only need one point of warp disruption to keep them pinned to the field unless they have a Warp Core Stabilizer fit. I would recommend the options with lower CPU requirements than the Compact, but the very long range models will work with a CPU implant.
Implants: The implants that will help this fit work best all have to do with increasing the on-grid speed, as being able to rapidly disengage is tantamount to surviving if you bite off more than you can chew. First on the block is the ubiquitous friend of kiting fits everywhere, the Snake set.
The ACX, which provide an increase in the velocity bonus from your MWD is a great choice as it will help you go faster. The EMX line helps improve the agility of the ship, which is helpful in maneuvering in a crowded environment like a belt. Thanks to the Sisters' efforts and the Sanctuary's particular expertise, the Astero is an agile, tenacious ship that aptly adheres to the mantra of both rescuers and explorers: Stay safe, stay hidden, and use every tool at your disposal. It is particularly adept at venturing into dangerous territories, not merely in recovering whatever may be of interest but also in being able to safely bring it back.
Its engines have alternate power sources that come into play should any of its cargo - for which it has plenty of room - cause serious interference with internal systems. Its carapace is extremely well armored for a ship this agile, and covered in sensors capable of letting its crew track a myriad of different organic signatures.
The crew itself is safely protected from any number of transmittable ailments from rescues and other unexpected passengers, thanks to special quarantine bays that are conveniently located near jettisonable openings.
And lastly, an ingenious but cryptic transfer in part of the warp core functionality to an outlying cylindrical structure means the Astero is able to run certain higher-level cloaking functions with very little technical cost, and minimal interference from warp.
The Sisters of EVE have refused to comment on this technology, other than to recommend it not be tampered with. The Astero is the frigate of the Sisters of Eve faction, introduced in Rubicon 1. It has bonuses to drones and armor resists, the largest drone bay available in the frigate class, and the ability to fit a Covert Ops cloak.
The Astero is primarily designed as a cloaky exploration ship, with a particular emphasis on extended operation away from stations. As a result of this combination of exploration bonuses, covert ops cloak, and excellent PvP capabilities, the Astero is a popular ship in low, null, and WH space exploration.
The Astero is the only T1 ship that can fit a Covert Ops cloak, meaning it could be an attractive cloaky scout for lower skilled players. However, besides being expensive for the job, the Astero has the major drawback that it does not have the CPU that other scanning frigates and covert ops ships have, meaning it must make many fitting trade-offs to fit an expanded probe launcher, which is normally a standard part of a cloaky scout's fit.
